About this
Event Description
Descend into Liverpool’s genuine underground tunnel network for a live-action horror walk, then enjoy live music and food trucks in the historic stableyard. 4pm–midnight, 20 Oct–1 Nov 2026.
- Format: A live-action horror walk through Liverpool’s genuine underground tunnel network, then live music and food trucks in the historic stableyard.
- Confined, low-lit and physically demanding underground conditions — guardians should weigh this up for very young children or anyone with mobility or breathing difficulties.
- No contact: Performers will not make physical contact with guests; please don’t touch performers, fixtures or historic fabric.
- Supervision & age: All ages welcome; under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times, given uneven ground and low lighting.
- Optional: Your ticket covers the whole evening — only the timed headline experience needs a booked slot, so you can enjoy the festival, market and food areas without it.
Carved by the eccentric Joseph Williamson in the early 1800s for reasons still debated by historians, this genuine underground tunnel network beneath Edge Hill has stood abandoned and half-forgotten for two centuries. This Halloween, descend into the tunnels for a live-action horror walk exploring Liverpool’s darker Victorian-era stories — then climb back up into the Old Stableyard, where a full evening event awaits with live music, food trucks, and a genuinely fascinating “Mystery of Williamson” exhibition exploring why the tunnels were really built.
Why you should book this
The Williamson Tunnels are a genuinely unique site — there’s nowhere else like this in the country. Because group sizes are capped at 8 for safety, and the tunnels only host evening events for this one Halloween week, slots are limited; booking ahead is strongly recommended if you want a specific time.
What you’ll experience
- Beneath the City horror walk — the timed headline descent into the original brick-vaulted tunnels with 5 live-action performers
- The Mystery of Williamson Exhibition — a self-guided exhibition in the stableyard exploring the genuine historical mystery of why the tunnels exist, included free with your ticket
- Stableyard Live Music — local bands performing in the courtyard from 6pm
- Underground-Themed Food Trucks — a rotating line-up of Liverpool street food vendors in the stableyard all evening
- Tunnel Torch Photo Booth — a styled photo opportunity at the tunnel entrance with genuine period lanterns

Before you visit
🚗 Getting there & parking
By car: Overdale Street car park is about a 5-minute walk to the Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre. By train: Liverpool Lime Street is a 15-minute walk, or a short taxi ride if you’d rather not walk that distance in the evening.
🕐 Entry & times
Daily 4:00pm–12:00am, 20 Oct–1 Nov 2026. A valid ticket for your chosen date admits you to the whole evening; the timed headline experience needs its booked slot. Arrive a little before your slot — late arrivals are accommodated in a later slot subject to availability.
⚠ Code of conduct
Prohibited at all events: real or imitation weapons, full-face masks that prevent ID checks, and glass containers. Costumes are welcome within those limits. Security searches may be carried out on entry. Abusive or threatening behaviour, or failure to follow venue instructions, means removal without a refund.
Content note: Low ceilings in places, uneven brick floors underground, not suitable for claustrophobia. Hard hats are mandatory and provided. The stableyard event above ground is fully accessible for wheelchair or mobility-aid users even if the tunnels themselves are not. Good for: Serious horror fans · History-curious visitors · Groups wanting something genuinely unusual · Families wanting an accessible evening event even if not everyone goes underground
