- Format: A live-action descent into a genuine WWII air-raid shelter tunnel, then a 1940s street party with swing dancing and vintage food stalls above ground.
- Confined, low-lit tunnel conditions — guardians should weigh this up for very young children or anyone with mobility or breathing difficulties.
- No contact: Performers will not make physical contact with guests; please don’t touch performers, fixtures or historic fabric.
- Supervision & age: All ages welcome; under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times, given uneven ground and low lighting.
- Optional: Your ticket covers the whole evening — only the timed headline experience needs a booked slot, so you can enjoy the festival, market and food areas without it.
Built in 1842 to move coal beneath the city and later repurposed as an air-raid shelter during the Blitz, the Victoria Tunnel is a genuine 2.4km passage running deep under Newcastle. This Halloween, small groups descend deep into the tunnel for a live-action walk combining real wartime history with horror storytelling — then resurface to a full 1940s-themed street party above ground, complete with a vintage swing band, ration-book food stalls, and genuine wartime memorabilia on display.

🚗 Getting there & parking
By car: Manors car park is about an 8-minute walk to the Victoria Tunnel entrance on Ouse Street. By train: Newcastle Station is a 15-minute walk to Ouse Street. Other: Well served by Metro and bus if you’d rather avoid the walk from either the car park or the station.
🕐 Entry & times
Daily 4:00pm–12:00am, 20 Oct–1 Nov 2026. A valid ticket for your chosen date admits you to the whole evening; the timed headline experience needs its booked slot. Arrive a little before your slot — late arrivals are accommodated in a later slot subject to availability.
⚠ Code of conduct
Prohibited at all events: real or imitation weapons, full-face masks that prevent ID checks, and glass containers. Costumes are welcome within those limits. Security searches may be carried out on entry. Abusive or threatening behaviour, or failure to follow venue instructions, means removal without a refund.
Content note: Low ceilings, narrow sections, cold and damp underground — not suitable for claustrophobia. Hard hats compulsory. Not accessible for wheelchair or mobility-aid users below ground; the street party is fully accessible.
