Three exclusive nights inside “Britain’s most haunted castle.”
A 12th-century stronghold near Alnwick, Chillingham Castle has been home to the Grey family since 1246 and is famous for its dungeon and torture chamber. Long marketed as Britain’s most haunted castle and featured on Most Haunted, it carries eight centuries of documented history — and a reputation that draws ghost hunters from across the country.
For three nights only, Haunted Halloween Escape takes the castle after dark. You’ll explore the real Great Hall and Edward I Room by torchlight, browse a courtyard horror market lit by fire pits and lanterns, and — on the Premium and VIP tiers — join small-group vigils inside the genuine dungeon and torture chamber, using real ghost-hunting equipment led by experienced Chillingham guides.
Nothing here is staged and no outcome is ever promised. This is a genuine, uneven, freezing-cold historic building — not a purpose-built attraction. Wrap up warm, bring a torch, and wear flat, sensible shoes.

- Family Twilight (all ages, 5–7pm) — a non-scary storytelling tour, a courtyard pumpkin trail and hot chocolate.

- Premium Vigil (18+) — everything in Standard, plus a small-group vigil in the dungeon and torture chamber, ghost-hunting equipment, and a 3-course candlelit supper in the Minstrels’ Hall.
- VIP Witching Hour (18+, 31 October only, just 20 places) — everything in Premium, plus extended access to 1am, a historian-led talk on the castle’s 800-year history, and an exclusive Haunted Halloween Escape lantern keepsake.

Good to know
- No under-16s admitted after 7:00pm. Premium and VIP tiers are strictly 18+. Photo ID may be requested.
- The castle has steep spiral staircases, uneven floors and very limited step-free access — it isn’t suitable for anyone who struggles with mobility.
- Bring a torch, warm layers and flat shoes. The castle is genuinely cold, dark and uneven underfoot.
- No physical contact takes place; all vigils are guide-supervised, and every activity is optional.
